Goldwell Open Air Museum West of Beatty, NV near Rhyolite, NV 702-870-9946 Rating & Comments The Goldwell Open Air Museum is a 7.8 acre outdoor sculpture park approximately 5 miles west of the town of Beatty and 120 miles north of Las Vegas. It is a free admission facility, open year-round, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It began as a project of Belgian artist Albert Szukalski in 1984 with the installation of his major sculpture, "The Last Supper," which he created in cooperation with several Beatty residents. In subsequent years, six additional pieces were added to the site by three other Belgian artists (Fred Bervoets, Hugo Heyrman, and Dre Peeters) who, like Szukalski, were major figures in European art with extensive exhibition records.

Guggenheim Museum in New York, the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, and the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna - as well as other renowned collections around the world. The museum was designed by critically acclaimed architect Rem Koolhaas, winner of the 2000 Pritzker Prize in architecture.
Located at the Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino (adjacent to the hotel lobby), the museum is open seven days a week from 9:30 am to 8:30 am. Admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and Nevada residents, $11 for students, $7 for children ages 6-12, free for children under six and museum members. Public tours are available most days (free with paid admission). A recorded audio guide is available for an additional fee. The Searchlight Heritage Museum, a satellite of the Clark County Heritage Museum, reports the history of the mining boom town of Searchlight, which once surpassed Las Vegas in population. The Thunderbirds offer public tours of their facility every Tuesday and Thursday at 2:00pm The tour is not held on federal holidays or during the team’s Christmas, Easter and mid-season break. People can call (702) 652-9902 for updated information on tour cancellations. To attend the tour, people must be at the Nellis AFB Main Gate (located on Las Vegas Boulevard at the intersection of Craig Road by 1:45pm There they will obtain a visitor's pass that will give them access to the base. To obtain the pass, people must have a valid drivers license, current registration and proof of insurance for their vehicle. For rental vehicles, a drivers license and a copy of the rental contract is sufficient. Please note that no transportation is provided from the Main Gate to the Thunderbird Hangar. The tour includes a short video, guided museum walk-through and a chance to look at a Thunderbird F-16 up close (depending on aircraft availability). Please Note: Access to the Thunderbird Museum is not available to the general public at this time, please call to see if this has changed.

The museum, a nonprofit tax-exempt corporation, strives to preserve and promote the history of people of African descent in Las Vegas, as well as across the US and abroad. The museum offers over 10,000 items consisting of ethnic dolls, art, artifacts, figurines, posters, prints, books, magazines, buttons, records, and personal items of renown African-Americans and must more. The museum's gift shop offers an array of afrocentric art, gifts, greeting cards, fashion and accessories. The museum also publishes "Black Pioneers of Nevada," which highlights the accomplishments of Pioneers past and present. This is the only annual publication of its kind. The sixth edition honors 52 Pioneers.
